Unidentified newspaper article about the Dewan family, circa 1966-1967

Unidentified newspaper article showing Padre Derek Cameron distributing gifts to the Dewan family, circa 1966-1967.

Members of 161 Battery, RNZA 'adopted' the family and helped establish a sewing business for their teenager daughter. Padre Cameron and his wife, Dorothy organised the donation of fabric and other items from their local church, Saint Mary's Anglican Church Silverstream, while the troops supplied a sewing machine. The sewing business enabled the family to become self-sufficient as Mr Dewan was blind and could not work.
