About Me:

I enlisted on the 29th of September 1956 and left on the 1st of December 1988. Posted as a Private to the original Battalion as a re-enforcement and after 5 days of travel arrived in Taiping. Came home to Burnham and after a few courses promoted to Corporal returning again to Malaysia as a Section Commander in Gen Pearce's Battalion. Back to Burnham promoted to Sergeant and posted in 1965 to Support Wing School of Infantry as an instructor. Whilst there promoted to Staff Sergeant. Back to Burnham in 1969. After training at home and in Fiji promoted to Warrant Officer and deployed to Singapore in 1970 as the CSM B Coy. 1971 deployed to Vietnam as the CSM V6 Company. After a number of appointments in NZ posted to Hamilton as the RSM of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Army Area. Commissioned there and appointed Adjutant of the same area. 1984 after several officer appointments in NZ posted to Singapore as the Quatermaster. Returning to NZ took up the job as Battalion Second in Command of 5WWCT. Resigned after completing a deployment to Australia in support of their Bi-centennial celebrations. Since resigning have been employed with (then) Social Welfare Department, Department of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Maori Development from which I retired on the 30th of June 2012. A great journey with great people.

Read Ssgt Don Murray's interview. Totally agree with the comments made by the interviewer.Had the privellage of serving with Don in the Support Wing of the School of Infantry. Great instructor, meticulous and focused. We served together again, in 1971 in Singapore. His wife Miriam is a wonderful woman. E mihi kauana ki aia me tona hoa rangatira.
