About Me:

My father, Lt Col Valentine B Brown, was Commander of NZ Forces Vietnam from 1970 to 1972. He died in a road accident in Nelson in 2004. I was 10-12 years old when we lived in Saigon and travelled each school term by RNZAF Bristol Freighter from Tan Son Nhut to Changi. For a young man, the experience of living in Viet Nam as the son of a reasonably high ranking officer was exciting, unforgettable and a privilege. I knew a few of the servicemen stationed in Saigon by way of the Kiwi Club and had frequent contact with the staff at the embassy. As a family we gave some of our time and resources to helping the children of the Binh Loi Orphanage.

Hi Nigel. I really like the photos you have contributed to this site. My dad was a Gunner in Vietnam 1965-1966. I have posted some of his photos on my page if you are interested in seeing them.

Thanks, Mel.
