Submitted by Editorial team on

Black and white film extract showing an forward observation party from New Zealand's 161 Battery heading out on patrol with soldiers from 1RAR in Vietnam, 1965.

Transcript

In the oven-like heat, a patrol from the First Royal Australian Regiment sets out into guerrilla-infested territory. The Aussies are camped right next door to the New Zealanders, and three black-bereted men from the 161 Artillery Battery are going along on observation post duty. They'll direct the fire of the howitzers when the enemy is contacted.

Then word from the patrol crackles in.

The barrage thuds on into the night.
