- My first memory of the Vietnam War came about in July 1965 whilst standing at the edge of the runway at Whenuapai airbase waving GOODBYE to my Dad and other members of the 161 Battery of the Royal New Zealand Artillery.
- Tokohau Rima Samuels (1931–1975), known as Sam, was born to Rima and Evelyn Samuels on the 19th November 1931 at Turua, near Thames, New Zealand. He was of Tainui and Whakatohea decent plus European.

I have a few photos of FSB Le Loi taken in August 1970 when my platoon occupied it for over a week whilst under command 8RAR. Not sure how I can add them to this post though.
ORs were promoted to Acting WOII during their posting to 1NZATTV primarily to gain access to US facilities like Sgt/WO messes and to gain priorities otherwise not available to more junior ranks. The paper-war reflects what happened on army records and so on but they were not paid accordingly.
