Was recruited into Royal New Zealand Armoured Corps (RNZAC) and served in 1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1RNZIR), 2 May 1965 to 1 October 1966. Corps transferred to Royal New Zealand Artillery (RNZA) 7 December 1967 to go to Vietnam. Completed two Tour of Duty (TOD) in Vietnam. First TOD 15 September 1967 to 14 July 1968 on Echo gun. Died in Wellington and buried at Parihaka, Taranaki as Te Ruakau Wharepouri.
