Home Fires Burning - Papakura Art Gallery

Submitted by Editorial team on

To mark the end of the Vietnam War Oral History Project an installation of Vietnam War veterans’ art and photography was held at the Papakura Art Gallery in Auckland, April-May 2012.

Entitled Home Fires Burning: New Zealand's Vietnam War, the exhibition included pieces by photographer Noel Bell, painter John Gillies, model maker Dennis Griffin, and amateur slide photographers Terry Hughes, Kevin Burnell, Mike Harvey, and Lox Kellas.

Showcasing the creative work of returned servicemen during and after the war, Home Fires Burning explored the potential for veterans' art to extend and challenge public perception of the Vietnam War, and improve understanding of its ongoing impact within communities and families.
