Served in Vietnam as last commander of New Zealand's V Force, replacing Lieutenant-Colonel Val Brown in November 1972. Responsible for the withdrawal of New Zealand Forces in Vietnam and the last New Zealand serviceman to depart Vietnam on 23 December 1972. Resigned from the Army in 1985 and posted to the Retired List in the rank of Colonel.
