Children scavenging in rubbish dump

Children scavenging in rubbish dump, circa 1969

Vietnamese children scavenging amongst rubbish looking for reusable or sellable items. The child in the centre of the picture is investigating a cardboard box that once contained New Zealand-made baby powder. Cardboard was potentially quite valuable - many Vietnamese refugees used materials such as cardboard, tin and recycled wood to construct shelters and houses.
